Bunches o’ Brunches: Más in the West Loop

Welcome to Bunches o’ Brunches, a semi-weekly series featuring superior brunch and breakfast booze from new restaurants and menus throughout Chicago.

Basking in the glow of Randolph Street’s “restaurant row” is the enticing, modern Más – a restaurant and tequila bar located one block south on Washington. Más is mod, not just in design, but in their take on the traditional Mexican meal. Nowhere on their menu does this prove truer than during brunch service.

Brunch at Más

A well-prepared Bloody Mary is a satisfying meal in itself, but Más turns up the flavor with shrimp, bacon, lime and a bacon infused tequila. It is the drink to order if you’re dining before 2 p.m. and, if you have little concern for the opinions of others, well after brunch hours. The silver prize for breakfast cocktails goes to their prickly pear Bellini which is refreshingly fruity.

The Más Benedict with Spanish chorizo, red sauce, and grilled onions puts a subtly spicy twist on the brunch staple. Drenched in flavor, it is still pleasantly well-balanced. Another great option is the pozole, served with a savory chile guajilllo broth that is thoughtfully poured over juicy, tender shredded pork.

Not on the menu, but available by request, are red velvet pancakes, accompanied by a piloncillo syrup and drizzled with cream cheese frosting. Ask for them. They’re amazing.
