Is anything more irrelevant than celebrity news? It’s the basement of culture’s house. Like many, I am completely disgusted by the god-complex attributed to and proudly carried by many who are known worldwide for doing their job – whether that be singing, acting, or whatever.
That being said, it’s also unavoidable. Everyone knows that Solange and her brother-in-law “Jay-Z” scuffled in an elevator after Anna Wintour’s Met Gala. More like, she scuffled and he deflected. It’s disgusting but celebrity news is highly contagious. A large wave in the frequency of pop culture never goes unnoticed.
Chicago blogger Curvatude put it simply and accurately…
I think this whole Bey, Jay & Solange thing is just sad.

It’s scary, this voyeurism culture. We live in times where one known for doing their job well, and particularly in the field of entertainment, is never allowed a moment of privacy. And society accepts this fact as the price for a job well done.
Social media managers found it very difficult to do their job yesterday. The infamous elevator became a teleported black hole for productivity and everyone was asked for their thoughts on what seemingly went down. Here, for the record, are mine:
I have no idea what prompted Solange’s actions but I can say – as a woman living in one of America’s most stressful cities – that stress, anxiety, and sleep deprivation can cook emotions past the boiling point. It’s not a good place to be for anyone.
Solange recently canceled her European tour stating anxiety and an overflowing list of obligations. Maybe she’s reached her breaking point. Maybe she blacks out on occasion, and maybe she’s learned acting out as a coping mechanism. I don’t know.
What I do know is that all of us are exposed to stressful circumstances in Chicago. From road rage, to corporate ladders, it can all start to be a bit too much after a while. When everyone is pulling you in a different direction, rest is less frequent, and requirements become deadlines, do you act out or do you keep your cool?
The quiz below is meant to be fun. I have no idea what goes on in the Knowles/Carter family and it’s none of my business. Use this diversion to relieve some of the stress already pouring into your week.
