Weekend Highlights: Archeological Shopping at Modern Vintage Chicago

Modern Vintage Chicago

I remember searching for a week to find the perfect dress only to arrive and see another girl wearing my dress to the same party. No one wants to be a copy which is why Modern Vintage Chicago Market is pretty much the best shopping event idea ever. Everything here is distinctive and some pieces are truly one-of-a-kind. Arrive expecting a plethora of vendors offering jewelry, clothing, accessories, and home goods, both modern and vintage, in a two story space – oh, and free parking! What makes this so much more than a massive thrift store? For one, there’s no stale smell lingering in the air, the clothing is in pristine condition, and the event is exceptionally organized.  Secondly, many of the items are created by local designers and can truly not be found anywhere else in the world. If you see something here buy it immediately because you’ll never see it again in your life! Start with these, three of my favorite, vendors:

ReFinDefined, www.refindefined.com

You may remember my interview with Redgi Woods, the local re-designer who displays his own creations and the works of other local artists monthly in Pilsen. Visit him and his clothing line, ReFinDefined, at Modern Vintage Market for detailed formalwear and casual pieces created for both men and women. I love this skirt, eventually purchased by style expert Tara Jones. That’s right; it’s gone. Whomp whomp.

ReDefined Design Company, www.settingsundesigns.com

Not to be confused with Redgi’s label, Chelsea Lamb is the founder and designer behind ReDefined which utilized vintages brooches, antique watches, and semiprecious stones to create pieces that can never be replicated. Get into her whimsical details.

Nov, www.shopnov.com

You’ll recognize this brand from Dose Market last week and plenty of other shopping events throughout the city. Nov’s logo says it all, ‘Vintage Never Looked So Now’. This mother and daughter team works hard to continuously provide fun vintage clothing that is meticulously curated to reflect the taste of today. This coin belt by Nov is exactly what I’ve been looking for to complete my look for this week’s store opening event.

Tomorrow is Modern Vintage Chicago’s last day. Plumber’s Hall between 10am – 5pm. ModernVintageChicago.com, 1340 W. Washington St, Chicago IL
