5 Steps to Looking Rich and Dressing Well: Only Wear ONE Color for the Rest of Your Life (Step 2)

In my opinion, most colors associated with springtime should only be worn by children. Remember the year of baby pink? As if Mariah Carey had broken into our homes and painted everything in butterflies and ‘nursery-chic’ hues, there were baby pink briefcases, wallets, formal coats, furs, and cars – all items exclusive to adulthood marred by a color whose designation was preceded by ‘baby’. We looked so silly.
My mother thinks bright colors are for children and whores.

Color is essential to self-expression and even pastels have their place, but trends often go more than they come. At the end of a season, when Pantone has chosen yet another happening hue from their arbitrary crayon box of possibilities, one color is left standing and lasting for years and generations. It’s the official color of class, sophistication, and posh style. Black is the new Black. Black, in a word, is everything.
Lose those last 10lbs
Part of the color’s appeal is its ability to smooth and slim the one wearing it. Not that any of us need to lose a few pounds (…), but who doesn’t want to look toned and healthy. Black is the color equivalent to free liposuction with no side effects. Gotta love that, right?
Black is Cool(ing)
It may seem logical to wear a flowing white frock on a 90 degree day, but in actuality you’d be better off wearing black. Fareals! The reason is that black protects our bodies by absorbing the sun’s energy and keeping the skin under our clothes cooler. Wearing white on a hot day cooks our skin and causes the body to overheat instead of cool down.
Black is Everywhere
Whether your fashion budget is experiencing a flood or a drought this season, you can wear black well. Find the color at thrift shops, the Gap, and even Forever 21. At first sight, a tailored, black anything in a natural fiber looks better than most high end pieces in bright colors. The eye sees black and thinks, that’s right, rich!
