Our brain has a funny way of triggering happy feelings without our even realizing it. At least one integral part of our daily routine was probably adopted into our subconscious because of the feel good vibes it produces. Maybe we run a few miles each morning, just like mom did. Perhaps we eat our eggs sunny side up because that’s the way dad liked them. Or maybe we still root for the Cubs because it’s our family’s tradition. These things make us happy by reminding us of the people we love and the memories we cherish.
That’s what coffee does for me. Sure, I genuinely enjoy it, but part of the pleasure comes from reminiscing over memories I’ve collected while drinking coffee with family and friends. Before I was old enough for my own cup at the breakfast table, I remember waking up to the smell of coffee and bacon. My parents love, not just coffee, but deliciously sweet cream like the ones from Coffee-mate. When I was invited to share my fondest Coffee-mate inspired memory, though, the smell of coffee over Saturday morning cartoons wasn’t the first thing to come to mind.
Memories may be impossible to relive, but Coffee-mate has invited me to choose one to recreate and I couldn’t be more excited! I knew right away which it would be.
A few years after high school, I had the opportunity to tour Italy with two of my closest friends. That trip sparked in me a lifelong love for the country, the food, and the language. After a mix up with the hotel in Florence, we were given last-minute accommodations elsewhere. What happened next proved to be one of the most memorable moments of my life. I can’t wait to recreate that moment with those same friends over a cup of coffee, complete with Coffee-mate’s Caramel Macchiato – a flavor reminiscent of Italian cafés and biscotti.
I also chose Caramel Macchiato because the flavor is full but not overpowering. It adds just the right level of sweetness without masking the taste of coffee.
