What to Wear to a Great Gatsby Party or Wedding: The Winter Edition

What to wear to a great Gatsby party

What it lost in adaptation from the literary classic, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby made up for in sheer pictorial beauty. Almost a year since the film’s release, parties are still being hosted in its honor. A roaring 20s movement has emerged. Maybe our devotion is less to the film and more to the era by which it was inspired. Whatever the case, furs, feathers, and flappers are still in the air.

Sure, pairing your favorite body-con dress with pearls and fishnet stockings may feel fancy. So do stilettos. But neither are true to the 20s theme. Strapless flapper dresses, while on theme, are a death sentence under this polar vortex.

With the cold in mind, this blog’s most popular post “What to Wear to a Great Gatsby Party or Wedding: 10 Gorgeous Budget-Friendly Essentials” gets a winterized update with pieces from Chicago’s indie boutiques.

What to Wear to a Great Gatsby Party

Coats

1. Gray Coat by Eva Pazola: Pazola’s great for quality fabrics and unique designs. I love the silhouette of this wool blend cover-up. Perfect for a Gatsby girl.

2. Black Alpaca Coat with Cape by Eva Pazola: The cape on this alpaca coat is detachable. Although, you may never find an occasion to remove it. It’s a great nod to the 20’s detail oriented style.

3. Mal Smoking Jacket by C/Fan: Chicago’s C/Fan is known for her fabulous furs. This jacket’s body is made with rabbit fur and the collar with raccoon. A little over-the-top and perfect in its glamour.

4. Chelle Coat from C Fan: 100% lambskin and goat fur, this coat’s beauty is in the body piping and detail (found in the back). I also love the simplistic circle-tie closure.

Dresses

5. Eva Side Panel Dress by Ruch Designs: This silk chiffon dress is admittedly a bit snug around the waist for a 20s themed bash. Still, it’s, in  opinion, close enough to a loose shift without being shapeless and baggy.

6. Dress by Eva Pazola: The lowered waist and feminine flair of the skirt are perfect for now but also lend to the past’s style.

7. Kaitlyn Hand Embroidered Dress by Ruch Designs: Another perfect silk dress by Ruch. Not very snug in the waist – perfect for a 20s themed event.

8. Nude Pleated Ensemble by Eva Pazola: I’ve stuck with Eva Pazola and Ruch on this post because their dresses are dependably feminine and classic. These pleats, the two tiers, and the silky belt all remind me of a frock from the 20s era.

9. Marija by Nina from Loris Shoes: These aren’t too old-timey, right? I love that their booties instead of the predictable Mary Janes.

10. Follow by Chie Mihara from City Soles: The strap across the ankle, instead of over the foot, is a nice variation here. With the heel low, it’s very 20s still.

11. Janna by Ivanka Trump from Loris Shoes: The classic Mary Jane perfectly executed.

Accessories

The Brett fox fur collar by C/Fan: A great way to glam up – anything! This is my favorite piece from the designer’s collection.

Hats created by award winning Chicago milliner Loreta Corsetti: Handmade to perfection with passion and great attention to detail. I’d love these with a simple tee and jeans after the party’s over.

Earrings and bracelet by Dannijo Tucan from Trillium: Gorgeous, detailed, attention grabbing finishes.
