Remember the first piece of mail you got with your name on it? Maybe it was an issue of a teen magazine or a letter from a friend. Can you recall how excited you were to have actual postal correspondence bearing your name, just like an adult? Nowadays, how excited do you get about receiving mail? I think I check our mailbox once a week. The contents is never sensational.
French champagne house Veuve Clicquot wants us to rekindle that euphoria. This week, they’re touring Chicago in a mail truck decorated with the brand’s iconic label, asking folks to sip champagne and mail handwritten letters to their friends and family. This could either go really well or be the essential equivalent to drunk texting in the 17th century.

Madame Clicquot, the founder of the champagne house (she took it over after the death of her husband) was famous for her letters. In her memory, the brand is paying homage – and I love it! The art of letter writing is dying in a generation of texts and tweets. A traveling mail truck, serving fine French champagne and edible delicacies is just what the college professor who has a doctorate in English ordered.
