Does Wearing Natural Hair Imply Something About a Person?

This is a tricky question. To say that a person is brave for wearing their hair without altering it chemically implies that those who do choose to straighten their hair are somehow cowards. That would be incorrect. It also suggests that a natural-haired person who sometimes straightens their hair, or wears straight hair extensions, is perhaps wishy-washy and indecisive. I don’t buy that either.

It’s easier to say what a person with naturally curly or kinky hair is not: We’re not any different from anyone else. Our hair is not a political stance. Its place is to beautify the person we are within, but who we are within should be considered first, not second, to our hair.

Say it with Emojis

Dove Hair recently surveyed 1500 women between the ages of 13-54 years old. The vast majority agreed that emojis are often better than words at expressing how they feel. They also agreed that they cannot accurately depict how they look using emojis. Well, Dove Hair decided to do something about that.

Their new Dove Love Your Curls Emojis app allows users with curly hair to pick and use emojis in a variety of settings, with different skin tones, and different hair colors. Try it today and let me know what you think! It’s available in the App Store or Google Play for free.
