Listening to Chicago’s Hood Smoke at Schubas a few weeks back, I fell in love with the band’s sound instantly: serious soul, strong bass lines, and emotional vocals.
We’re thrilled today to exclusively feature Hood Smoke’s new video for the single “Alluring Bedlamite“.
Plus, we caught up with bassist and band creator Bryan Doherty for a little game of fill-in-the-blanks.
Hello my name is Bryan Doherty, but my friends call me Morty. The one message I want concert goers to take home from a Hood Smoke show is we are all in this thing together. A reflection on life through music has been my main focus since I can remember, and I feel I need to share that focus with people so we all can remind ourselves that when times are tough, when times are great, any given time, we’re all in this together. My favorite dance is the same-arm-same-leg-walk. My favorite song right now is —I’ve got two: “Blue Monday People” by Curtis Mayfield from the album There’s No Place Like America Today and “Albatross” by the first incarnation of Fleetwood Mac a la Peter Green. One local artist everyone should know is O.R. They? My favorite place in the entire city is The Auditorium Theater. The best pizza can be found at Lou Malnati’s for thin crust, Art of Pizza for pan style, and Pequod’s for deep dish. If there’s one piece of advice I can give Chicagoings’ readers, it would be don’t park like an a**hole.
