The Omni Louisville Hotel

Hi, family! Before we close the month of May, I want to share with you one highlight from my Memorial Day road trip to Kentucky— the new Omni Louisville Hotel.

The Omni Louisville Hotel is likely the best place to stay in the city. Anyway, it’s undoubtedly the most luxurious. My visit was for pleasure, but the Omni group has fully equipped this new addition for both work and play.

In the middle of downtown, 30 stories tall, sits this beacon of glamour, filled with 612 premium guestrooms, and enough restaurant and bar options to entertain you through the weekend.  Derby motifs and ornamental whiskey barrels confess Kentuckian pride from the moment you walk through the door. “Over the last two years, we’ve watched the Omni climb 30 stories into our skyline, while inside the hotel, the Omni team carefully curated every item in this building to reflect our city’s culture and personality,” says Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer.

Highlights

If you’re only in town for a day, like me, there’s no need ever to leave the building. Park your car with the valet ($35 per night, includes in-and-out privileges), abandon your bag with bellhop; turn to your left, past the lobby’s neon “Soul of Louisville,” and have a seat in the Library Bar where stoic wooden shelves reach from the floor to the ceiling. Sip a glass of bourbon and enjoy small bites in front of the stylish copper fireplace. By day, this is the perfect spot to jump-start a morning of business — or leisure reading.

When you’re ready, walk back into the hallway and look under the staircase. You’ll see a large framed painting. Split it apart to find the speakeasy bar Pin + Proof. Here you can bowl a game with your friends for $50 while still enjoying your glass of the area’s finest whiskey.

Continue the fun at the rooftop bar, The Water Company, complete with hot tub and lounge.

When it’s time for a real meal, you can opt for the hotel’s steakhouse, Bob’s Steak and Chop House, near the lobby. Instead, I chose the award-winning Butchertown Grocery, only a 7-minute drive away. The name’s casual, but the dining’s refined. Housed inside a modest 19th-century brick building and complete with its own speakeasy, it was voted amongst the nation’s top restaurants. The menu is a modern take on American southern.

When I return, I plan to try the Omni’s day spa, Mokara, and fitness center. I’ll keep you posted!
