One of my favorite vloggers Andrea’s Choice (subscribe to her YouTube channel for great beauty tips!) features some amazing DIY nail art tutorials. She’s not a Chicago girl but I thought we could feature her Galaxy Nails design for this weekend since it’s what I chose for my date tonight (we’re seeing FELA!).
So here’s my version of ‘Galaxy Nails’:
Tools: Wax Paper. Q-Tips and nail polish remover. A makeup sponge. A very dark nail color (OPI UNFOR-GRETA-BLY BLUE), a lighter contrasting color (both L’Oréal Club Prive and Revlon Dreamer), a glitter that won’t completely cover your design (KIKO Oro Microglitter), and a clear top coat (Sally Hansen Diamond Flash).
Steps:
- The dark color will represent endless space. Paint the entire nail in this color.
- Take your contrasting color and create a small pool onto the wax paper. Using your makeup sponge, dip into this pool and dab the contrasting color onto your nail, focusing on the middle of the nail first. Repeat this on all five nails.
- Take your second contrasting color and repeat step 2. If you choose to have a third contrasting color, apply it in the same manner. There is no need to wait for each layer to dry but don’t use too much!
- Now, take your glitter polish and cover the entire nail. Remember, your glitter should be more transparent then opaque.
- Wait a few minutes and cover your creation in a clear, glossy, top coat. Voila!
UPDATE: Soak your sponge in water and wring out prior to use. This will keep your overlapping colors from being as opaque as mine here.
