Logan Square Arts Festival 2016
June 24, 2016 @ June 24, 2016 - June 24, 2016
$5The Logan Square Arts Festival returns to the Illinois Centennial Monument on Logan Square this summer, June 24–26. The festival features live music on two stages, live art from some of Chicago’s best-known street artists, pop-up exhibitions in local businesses, an expanded family area, craft cocktails from the Whistler, and beer from Logan Square’s own Revolution Brewing. A portion of every gate donation will once again benefit Logan Square Preservation’s efforts to restore and maintain the Illinois Centennial Monument on Logan Square.
ART
“We want the art and the music to be a cohesive experience,” says Logan Square Arts Festival Art Committee Chair Lindsey Meyers. “We want it to be experiential and we want our viewer to feel like they’re immersed and involved.”
To achieve the desired immersion, “live art panels” will be placed throughout the festival center where some of the city’s most talented street artists—Rada, Cyfn, Tararchy, Mosher, Bunny XLV, Giraffe Kat, and Penny Pinch—will be practicing their craft. There will also be an art collective through which viewers can wander featuring works by artists in various mediums, performative works by Human Library Chicago, food trucks, and more. Festivalgoers may also look forward to a projection mapping light installation by Chicago artist George Berlin, pop-up exhibitions by local artists in neighborhood businesses, and an interactive polaroid project with local photographer Ashlee Dean Wells.
FOOD & DRINK
This year’s festival marks the return of Revolution Brewing. The Logan Square brewery’s founder, Josh Deth says, “the Logan Square art scene makes the neighborhood great and we’re happy to be pouring some local beers at the square during the fest again.”
In addition to beer from Revolution Brewing, the festival will feature cocktails from The Whistler, sangria from Lula Café, and coffee drinks from Dark Matter. Food concessions feature a variety of neighborhood restaurants including Parson’s Chicken & Fish, Dia De Los Tamales, The Radler, Café Con Leche / D’Noche, Dimo’s Pizza, Cevappcici, and Black Dog Gelato. There will be special offerings from Chloe Wines and Cruzan Black Strap Rum.
The Logan Square Arts Festival will take place June 24–26 near the Illinois Centennial Monument on Logan Square. Open Friday 5pm–10pm, Saturday & Sunday 12pm–10pm. $5 suggested gate donation. A portion of each gate donation will go to the restoration of the Centennial Monument.
