Last Thursday, I had the opportunity to attend a preview dinner for 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria in Evanston. The west coast born brainchild of Chef Anthony Carron is an assembly line style make-your-own-pie joint that’s serious about authentic Neapolitan style pizza. In fact, I would argue that for the prices listed and the quality of ingredients used, only Ravenswood’s Spacca Napoli is a clear competitor for the new concept.
The premise is simple: Pick your crust, pizza style, toppings, and your pie is placed in a wood-fired oven, ready in about 90 seconds. Going gluten free? They’ve got you, no problem! Salads, wines, Italian beer, and gelato are also offered. I said that like it’s no big deal but honestly their gelato is pretty amazing.
If you weren’t at the preview dinner, don’t fret. You can still get your mouth around some of this amazing pie – gratis! 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, will host “Social Sunday” at its new location this weekend. October 18th, from 11 am- 4 pm, anyone who brings their mobile device and shows they “Follow” or “Like” 800 Degrees on Instagram or Facebook (@800degreespizza) will receive one free pizza with up to 3 toppings, or a Specialty Pie. All other items are full price.
Here’s my favorite combination. Let me know if you try it or would like to recommend your own mishmash.
800 Degrees has plans of landing on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue in the near future.
