Thrify Thursdays: Leahey & Ladue Consignment in Lakeview

By  |

The consignment thing is old news in Chicago as every neighborhood has at least one independently owned consignment or resale store. With so many options, it’s hard to be surprised by a store’s presentation or prices (unless the latter are obnoxiously expensive!). However, Leahey & Ladue Consignment has been finding ways to reinvent the wheel. As with most thrift stores, here you can expect designer apparel, price ranges to suit all buyers, and clean, ready to wear (if you dare) clothing. What Leahey & Ladue does differently? ORGANIZATION!

Leahey & Ladue Consignment

Part of the pain of frugality is the patience needed for price comparisons, the energy required for digging through discount bins, and the confidence needed to argue with co-shoppers over what is rightfully yours (even if you haven’t purchased it yet). Thankfully, Leahey & Ladue has saved you some trouble by organizing all designer (think Gucci and Valentino) apparel into a nice neat corner of the store. You won’t have to fear finding a $500 Herve Leger body con dress next to a $20 Ann Taylor frock leaving you disappointed and dejected if you expected the first to cost less. What’s more? Skirts and dresses aren’t the same thing. Neither are blouses and shirts. Leahey & Ladue have thus logically organized each into different racks and sections. They aren’t kidding people! There is a system here designed to make your entire experience less stressful and less time consuming.

A word of caution: Refunds and exchanges, sadly, are NOT allowed. Also, the dressing rooms are communal. Do make sure both your socks and drawers are (ahem!) hole-free. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya! HAPPY THRIFTING!

…“I’m gonna pop some tags! Only got twenty dollars in my pocket. I - I - I’m hunting, looking for a come-up. This is freaking awesome!”

Leahey & Ladue Consignment is located at 3753 N Southport Ave (between Waveland Ave & Grace St)

Ok,first of all I hate that song…but funny. Second, you really should consider changing your policy. If you are not going to allow refunds at least be decent and allow exchanges(getting another item that costs the same price as the item you wish to give back). What is wrong with an exchange,it’s not like you’re losing money? That isn’t smart if you want to keep your customers. What if the clothes have flaws that are not big enough to notice and first but still look bad? What if you forget to examine a piece of clothing first(occasionally)? ? Then we are forced to be unhappy because of the stupid no exchange policy…

Rena, thanks for being a reader. Regarding my reference to Macklemore’s Thrift Shop, I know that song’s ridiculous but it always makes me laugh. Secondly, I must admit that I too become frustrated when retail stores refuse to offer a customer friendly return or exchange policy. Still, I suppose the choice is theirs and if we don’t like it we can take our business elsewhere. Unfortunately, I don’t have the will power to stay out Leahey and Ladue. If you do, though, know that Chicago is full of other thrift and consignment stores offering no hassle return policies just in case buyer’s remorse does set in after your purchase makes it home. Happy Thrifting!
