{This Weekend} 2 Things to do that aren’t Pitchfork Music Festival

Pitchfork
Zoning on the ground at Pitchfork 2013

This weekend, all of your indie music loving friends will be at Pitchfork Music Festival in Union Park. If you’ve never had the pleasure of attending Pitchfork and are thinking of buying tickets this year, sucks for you. Tickets are already sold out, save for Friday.

The bright side? Pitchfork isn’t the only thing happening in Chicago this weekend. Here are two events to keep you out of the house and away from Netflix.

Taste of River North (…or TORN as I’ve decided to call it just now)

When: Friday, July 18, 5 p.m. – 10 p.m., Saturday, July 19th, 12 p.m. – 10 p.m., Sunday, July 20th, 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Where: Ward Park at the corner of N. Kingsbury and W. Erie

Why you may want to attend: Food vendors include River North favorites Havana and Untitled. There’s also a Weezer cover band performing Friday night which could be either a great thing or the worst thing ever. Curiosity piqued!

Chinatown Summer Fair

When: Sunday, July 20th, 10 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Where: Wentworth Ave. from Cermak Rd. to 24th Pl.

Why you may want to attend: As far as Chicago street festivals go, Chinatown Summer Fair is playing by its own rules and with its own ball. Crammed into one quick Sunday afternoon, the fair promises classical Chinese dance, Old and New World music, a cutest baby contest, ponies, and dragon rides. Hmm… I may have one of these confused.
