There’s no better way to feel like a lazy slacker than to watch a live professional dance performance. Lean bodies lifting equally enviable physics into the air, unhesitatingly moving like Marvel heroes across a waxed floor, perfecting a craft they’ve been mastering since K-4. It’s humbling, to say the least.

Dance Theater is having its moment this week in Chicago. In particular, the Joffrey Ballet has something very special cooked up for this weekend. If you’re not a fan of ballet, this is for you. If you are a fan of ballet, you’d probably pay to watch anything that comes out of Joffrey – and so this is for you, also.

Works prepared by the winners of Joffrey’s third annual Choreographers of Color Award will be debuted this Saturday at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place. These pieces are originals, created by the hard working recipients of an award designed to showcase the often overlooked performer of color.

This year’s winners are Stefanie Batten Bland, Justin Allen, and Norbert De La Cruz III.

Tickets are only $20 if purchased in advance. Tickets at the door are $23. Purchase tickets here: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/winning-works-choreographers-of-color-2014-tickets-10722062979.
